The Willis Research Network’s new partnership with The International Seismological Centre

The Willis Research Network (WRN) is proud to announce the continued growth of its Seismic research activities through new partnerships with the EPICentre research centre of University College London (UCL) and the International Seismology Centre (ISC). The ISC is a leading institute in the compilation of worldwide historical earthquake data and catalogues. The work undertaken by ISC, originally supported by Global Earthquake Model (GEM), for the creation of the global ISC-GEM catalogue has been pioneering in creating a global, unified and processed, earthquake catalogue for events of moderate to large magnitude earthquakes since the 1900s. The EPICentre, our partner for more than 10 years are a multidisciplinary research centre who focus on investigating risks to society, the built and the natural environment from natural hazards. The centre is located in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering at UCL and has research projects all across the globe.

Dr Myrto Papaspiliou, Lead Earthquake Specialist with Willis Re, said, “The catalogue has become a fundamental input in a large number of earthquake catastrophe models since then. The expansion of this catalogue to earlier years and lower magnitudes will further improve a fundamental tool for the development and evaluation of earthquake recurrence and earthquake catastrophe models worldwide“ Rosa Sobradelo, Senior Research Manager of WRN said “We are delighted to support and be part of this relevant initiative. Our sponsorship of the work underway at ISC will give us immediate access to any new and existing data developments which we believe will continue to support and improve our view of risk”
