The year was 1965. “My Fair Lady” starring Audrey Hepburn won the Academy Award for Best Picture and “Satisfaction” was a Billboard hit for the Rolling Stones. Meanwhile, the stellar career of Dame Kiri Te Kanawa was launched in New Zealand when she won the Mobil Song Quest. As Russian Cosmonaut Aleksei Leonov became the first person to walk in space, the first commercial airline services flew out of Auckland's new International Airport at Mangere.

On 16 March 1965, another historic event took place in Auckland, when Willis’ first New Zealand office opened!

While Brokers from Willis in London had worked with New Zealand based clients as far back as the 1920s, the opening of our first local office was a significant demonstration of our dedication to the region. In later years, Willis opened offices in Wellington and Christchurch, and 2015 now marks the 50th anniversary of Willis New Zealand.

We are extremely proud of this milestone achievement and our place as a long term committed partner of clients in New Zealand. Throughout 2015, we look forward to celebrating our 50th anniversary with our clients, insurer partners and the local community, via a range of activities including the volunteering of staff time to local not for profit organisations.
