Willis Appoints New Head of Venezuelan Operations
London, UK, June 30, 2009 – Willis Group Holdings (NYSE: WSH), the global insurance broker, has appointed
Jose Diaz Devesa as CEO of Willis Venezuela, effective immediately. He succeeds Juan B. Arismedi, who
has been appointed Non Executive Chairman. Based in Caracas, Diaz Devesa reports to Eugenio Paschoal, CEO,
Willis Latin America.
Willis entered Venezuela in 1999 by acquiring a 49 percent stake in local broker Rontarca Prima to
become Rontarca Prima Willis, and the operation, Willis Venezuela, is now a 100-percent-owned subsidiary of the
Group. Willis Venezuela has more than 450 Associates and offices in Caracas, Maracabio, Valencia, Barquisimeto, Puerto
Ordaz and Puerto La Cruz. The operation has been the leading broker in the Venezuelan market
since 1984 and provides services in P&C, Affinity, Employee Benefits and Reinsurance.
Diaz Devesa’s most recent role was as Managing Director of Rontarca Prima Willis, now Willis Venezuela. He
joined Prima Insurance Brokers in 1994 and was CEO when the company merged with Rontarca in
1999. His distinguished insurance career, which spans four decades, includes various senior roles across Latin America
with Aviva, Chubb Insurance, Liberty Mutual and insurance company Seguros La Metropolitana.
In addition, Diaz Devesa has been the President of the Venezuelan Chamber of Insurance Brokers since May
2000 and is Principal Director of the National Insurance Council. He is also Vice President of
the Pan-American Confederation of Insurance Brokers and President of the Insurance Committee of the Venezuelan American
Chamber of Commerce.
Congratulating Diaz Devesa, Paschoal said, “Appointing Jose to head our Venezuelan business was an obvious choice. He
has a wealth of insurance experience in Latin America, having worked in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and
Venezuela over the last 40 years. In addition, he has been in senior leadership positions in
our business since the beginning of our relationship with Rontarca Prima.”
He added, “Juan Arismedi has been CEO of Rontarca Prima and then Willis Venezuela for the last
42 years and has built the company into the largest insurance broker in the country. We
thank him for his great contribution and are delighted that he will be staying on in
a non-executive advisory role.”
Diaz Devesa said, “I am excited by the opportunity to lead the company through the next phase
of its development here. Although there are challenges in the current Venezuelan market, we remain committed
to distinguishing ourselves by providing exemplary service, and working hard to retain and expand our relationships
with existing clients and attract new clients.”
In addition to Venezuela, Willis Latin America has operations in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru
along with correspondents throughout Central America and the Caribbean.
