Glencairn Forms New Energy Capability
--Appoints Alan Brooks to Lead Team--
London, UK, February 9, 2009 - Glencairn, a company within Faber & Dumas, the third-party wholesale insurance
broker, today announced the establishment of an energy division within the London market and the appointment
of Alan Brooks as the Chief Executive of Glencairn Energy.
Brooks is a Chartered Insurance Broker and
has been a high-profile figure in the global energy insurance market since joining Jenner Fenton Slade
(JFS) in 1985 directly from the oil industry, where he worked for Britoil plc. After JFS
was acquired by Aon in 1994, Brooks headed its International Upstream broking team. In 2000, Brooks
joined Willis where, as Managing Director of the Energy division, he was credited with revitalising and
rebuilding the company's energy practice.
Glencairn's Chairman and Chief Executive, Steve Hearn, commented, "We have for some time now been seeking an
energy capability that will complement the products and services we offer our broking partners around the
world, and we are delighted to have been successful in appointing an individual of Alan's capability
and standing to lead this initiative."
Glencairn Energy will work closely with Global Special Risks (GSR) and Maclean, Oddy & Associates, two leading
US excess and surplus lines wholesale brokers serving the energy industry that are also part of
the Faber & Dumas stable.
Alan Brooks commented, "There has long been room in the London market for a new broking capability
to serve the unique needs of the energy industry, and I am delighted to have found
a team of partners in Glencairn that share this vision. We will be working in tandem
with GSR and Maclean, Oddy to build a unique platform that delivers a broad range of
products and services to our clients. I anticipate this venture will capture a lot of interest.
This is an exciting concept with great growth potential and I look forward to making further
announcements and appointments in the near future."
Faber & Dumas provides specialist wholesale services in a number of areas including property, accident & health;
fine art, jewellery and specie; kidnap and ransom, bloodstock; energy; construction; cargo and casualty lines.
