Alistair Rivers Named CEO of Willis Energy, in Addition to Role as Head of Willis Marine
London, UK, November 5, 2008 – Willis Group Holdings (NYSE: WSH), the global insurance broker, has appointed Phillip Ellis as leader of a new division focused on growing the company’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) business for Willis’ Global Retail and Specialty teams. Ellis was most recently Chairman of Willis Energy and in his new role he will report directly to Grahame Millwater, President of Willis Group, while acting as non-executive Chairman of Willis Energy.
Prior to joining Willis in 2006, Ellis served with the Boston Consulting Group as leader of the firm’s Oil and Gas Practice. Before that, he was with Booz Allen & Hamilton where he last headed up the firm’s Energy Practice for Europe and the Middle East.
Commenting on his appointment, Millwater said, “Phil brings more than 20 years of experience leading global management consulting businesses to his new role in driving ERM globally for the Group. We have enormous talent in our company around the world in risk engineering, captive consulting, actuarial studies, risk modeling, ERM and many other related areas. Phil’s goal will be to align these capabilities in a manner that is unique and valuable to our clients and prospects.”
Alistair Rivers, CEO of Willis Marine, the world's leading Marine insurance broker, will take on the role of CEO of Willis Energy, in addition to his current duties. He will continue to report to Joe Trotti, CEO of Global Specialties. Energy and Marine will remain separate businesses with separate executive teams, but they will share Rivers as a leader.
“Alistair will bring the qualities that have led to the well-managed growth of Marine to our Energy business, where we aim to build on our continuing success,” said Trotti. “Willis has made significant investments in our global Energy and Marine businesses to enhance our offering to clients. Under Alistair Rivers’ and Phil Ellis’ leadership, both businesses have expanded their global footprint and have delivered strong growth and profit despite highly competitive market conditions.”
